The year 2024 marked a historic milestone for Vietnam’s agriculture sector, with the total export value of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products reaching a record high of 62.5 billion USD, an increase of 18.7% compared to 2023. Building on this success, 2025 is forecast to be a breakthrough year with many open opportunities, promising to meet and exceed the target export value of 64-65 billion USD.
“Highlighting” the Export Heroes
In 2024, many agricultural products achieved remarkable success, becoming key growth drivers for Vietnam’s agricultural exports. Among them, the fruit and vegetable sector emerged as a “shining star,” with an export value of 7.12 billion USD, up 27.1% from 2023. Not only did it surpass the target of 6 billion USD, but the fruit and vegetable sector also set an ambitious target for 2025 of over 8 billion USD, aiming for the 10 billion USD milestone in the near future.
In addition to fruits and vegetables, the seafood sector also made a significant contribution to the overall success, with an export value of 10.07 billion USD, an increase of 12.2% from 2023. For 2025, the seafood sector aims for growth of 10-15%, targeting more than 11 billion USD in exports.
Moreover, several industrial crops like coffee, pepper, and cashews have solidified their position as “billion-dollar” commodities on the international market. Coffee rose to third place among Vietnam’s largest agricultural exports, following fruits and rice, with an export value of 5.48 billion USD.

“Launchpads” for Growth
The impressive growth of Vietnam’s agricultural exports in 2024 and the promising outlook for 2025 are built on several solid “launchpads”:
- Expansive Potential Markets: Vietnam is effectively tapping into major markets like the US, China, and the EU, while also expanding into new promising markets such as the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia.
- Effective Export Promotion Programs: Several export promotion programs for agricultural, forestry, and fishery products have been successfully implemented, providing a boost for enterprises to reach international markets.
- Favorable Trade Negotiations: Bilateral and multilateral trade negotiations have been intensified, reducing barriers and facilitating the access of Vietnamese agricultural products to international markets.
- Enhanced Production and Processing Capacities: Enterprises continue to improve their production and processing capabilities to meet the stringent standards of importing markets.

The “Key” to Success
To achieve the challenging growth targets, Vietnam’s agriculture sector needs to grasp key “success keys”:
- Develop High-Quality Raw Material Zones: Establish concentrated raw material zones and apply advanced scientific and technological methods to enhance productivity and product quality.
- Enhance Deep Processing: Invest in deep processing technologies to create high value-added products that meet the diverse needs of the market.
- Build Strong Brands: Build reputable brands for Vietnamese agricultural products in international markets to create a competitive edge.
- Develop Efficient Logistics: Invest in modern logistics systems to reduce transportation costs and ensure the quality of agricultural products.
- Strengthen Trade Promotion: Organize trade promotion activities to introduce and promote Vietnamese agricultural products to potential markets.

“Riding the Waves” to Success
In 2025, Vietnam’s agriculture sector faces significant opportunities to break through and reach new heights. However, to “ride the waves” successfully, coordinated efforts from the government, businesses, and producers are essential:
- Government:
- Continue improving the institutional framework and policies to support agricultural development.
- Increase investment in agricultural infrastructure and logistics.
- Create favorable conditions for enterprises to access capital and technology.
- Businesses:
- Enhance competitiveness by innovating technology and improving product quality.
- Proactively seek new markets and expand distribution channels.

2025 promises to be a year of fruitful success for Vietnam’s agricultural exports. With the existing advantages, continuous efforts, and synchronized solutions, Vietnam’s agriculture sector will continue to affirm its crucial position on the global agricultural map, contributing high economic value and supporting the country’s sustainable development.
